Every time you login to your Facebook page you see a timeline of updates on the screen with the most recent news on the top, that’s when you have selected most recent on the corner of the news feed.
When you select the Top news you get a altogether news feed based on your profile ever wondered how it works? Facebook calls it Edge Rank, not something related to Page rank of websites that Google uses for ranking. While there is no flaw in the edge rank algorithm it definitely gives you a reason why some of your posts or status updates go missing in your friends profile or you might have not received a status updates of a long time friend even though he posts updates regularly. To see how edge rank works look at the Formula below no I am not going to explain you solve this engineering mathematics and not my cup of cake either.
Every update on the news feed is an object say your status update, has an edge rank which is defined by the formula above, So to get to someone’s top news page, Edge rank uses affinity score which is based on following factors.
1. How often ‘A’ interacts with ‘B’ more interaction better edge rank.
2. How many likes and comments the object has, again comments have more value than likes.
3. When was the update posted, the more recent status will have a better edge ranking.
So now you all know why lady gaga or Justin Bieber is ruling my top news right now.
