Internet search giant Google’s video-sharing website YouTube which recently launched the movies channel and increased its upload video length recently is now taking one step further and is in talks with several Hollywood studio reported Financial times. It may launch a global pay-per-view video server by the the end of 2010, if this comes true, it sounds like more trouble for Blockbuster which is already on the verge of Bankruptcy.
The price for the movies is not yet decided but sources say it should be offering entire movies streaming in for about $5 a pop, which sounds a little expensive when you can get thousands of movies streamed to your computer or TV with $8.99/month from Netflix and definitely expected Apple iTV which will be launching something similar on Sep-1.
It’s no secret that the search giant has been trying to stay abreast of other services in terms of multimedia distribution – be it photos (Picasa) or videos (YouTube). The recent buzz seems to be hinting at the fact that Google is planning to make it big in multimedia distribution of movies and games.
